Farewell to Petra Klimek

It is with great dismay that we learned of the death of our wonderful and precious colleague Petra Klimek. As a German Set Decorator and Production Designer, she represented our member organisation VdRSD at the last ARTSCENICO meeting in November 2019 in Vienna.

Excerpt of a farewell letter from VdRSD : After having studied sculpture, Petra came to the newly emerging film industry in North Rhine-Westphalia in the early 90ies. Initially starting as a property master, over time she specialized on Set Decoration and Production Design. Her creative and artistic abilities shaped films as different as Hannah Arendt, Only Lovers Left Alive, Winnetou – der Mythos lebt, Ich war noch niemals in New York, Exil, Schachnovelle and, most recently, Rabye Kurnaz vs. George Bush.

Petra was highly regarded and valued in the film industry for both her work and as a person. The new generation professionals were very important to Petra, and she passed on her knowledge and extensive experience to younger colleagues with great enthusiasm and joy.

Thank you for your engagement for ARTSCENICO, Petra. We will miss you on our next encounter …
